The book
Once upon a time, there was an oak tree. This is the true story of a thousand-year-old tree, born in Sologne, and the lives of the animals that inhabit it.
The author, scientist Jacques Tassin, slips into the shoes of the narrator and becomes the voice-over of this film, full of action and emotion, without words.
Alongside the spectacular images by Laurent Charbonnier and Michel Seydoux, the ecologist sheds scientific light on the symbolism of the oak tree and deciphers the behaviour of the many birds, squirrels, barnacles and other animals, large and small, unusual and familiar, that are the heroes of the story. It also introduces the reader to an invisible living world beneath the earth, between the giant’s roots.
Richly illustrated with images from the film, this book is an ode to life and biodiversity.
